I've never understood the fascination that some places have with the idea of "alternate" sauces, like BBQ or Buffalo Wing sauce.

To my mind it shows a profound misunderstanding about the nature of pizza.

We went to the Old Chicago in Mesa, AZ and had the Double Deckeroni "specialty pizza" that was described as having a "spicy pizza sauce". One would think a nice, spicy tomato sauce, right? Absolutely not. They just dumped Buffalo chicken wing sauce over the pizza. It was horrible tasting. All one could taste was the chicken wing sauce. If that is what you are going to do to the pizza say so. Don't call it a "spicy pizza sauce". If I wanted to taste Buffalo chicken wing sauce I would get Buffalo chicken wings, thank you. The waiter was of zero help. After I complained about the horrible taste he just disappeared until it was time to pay. Never again.
