It might be time for you to revisit this location. I picked up a pizza to-go from here, today. I was not impressed, to say the least.
I ordered a deep-dish medium with sausage. At first I thought it was going to be the best. The crust was crisp, sauce smelled good, and the pizza was packaged well. However, the first bite took all that away. The crust was not crispy, but rather hard. You know I'm not a great pizza aficionado, like yourself, but is it possible to have stale pizza crust?
Although the balance of the pizza wasn't terrible, the cheese, sauce and sausage didn't seem right. The pizza seemed overly salty, maybe because of the sausage, but it tasted stronger than you'd expect. As the cheese cooled, it seemed too bitter. All of these latter observations could easily be influenced by the, figurative, bad taste I got from the crust.
I did notice some reports online about the owners retiring. As you always have said, that's when the party ends. I hope it was just a bad pizza and your original review is more accurate.
